Preview of Steve's new Skate model

Steve decided to order a new custom after discussing his ideas and issues he's had with his CI Biscuits and Pods. Both designs look great aesthetically and perform well, but their performance is limited to decent to good wave quality to get the most out of those shapes. At that point, the performance tri-fin would be ideal.

By appearance to the untrained eye the Pod and Biscuit shapes look as if they would grovel well by the appearance of the outlines. Having heard this from many dissapointed owners, I have been contemplating this design for awhile now. Steve was the impetus to design it.

Steve wanted to maintain the positives attributes of both shapes and negate the hang-ups he's experienced with both shapes, and wanted something custom for the condtions of his home break. I hand shaped this new master shape to be digitized ... the Skate

The Skate incorporates unique rails in the nose area. Thin boxy rails with a definate deck edges blending into progressive rails mid section to modern boxy tail.

Bottom is neutral ie, subtle double concaves up through mid section. Subtle double to singe concaves and some other subtle tweaks through the rail fin area.

  1. Whoaw! Man, another great shape. Love how you talk about the genesis of each new board you make. Really cool

  2. Wayne, I'm salivating right now, seeing the photos of my new board! This is exactly what I had in mind. It looks like you've addressed everything we talked about. Can't wait to see it in person. -Steve

  4. Not much Wayne, not much... Surfing. But I'm doing good, thanks.
Hey how do those pinched rails compared to the tapered rail you made on that big MushBuster? (The one with the yellow rails). Just Curious.
Steve, don't know you, but you're a lucky bastard. ;)

  5. Alex, the rails are much different. It's difficult to see the nuances by the pics. The XXL-M-B has a defined deck taper that is blend into a boxy outer rail with a subtle edge around the periphery of the outline.

This board has a different foil and the boxy defined edge on the upper portion of the rail line is only at the upper portion if the nose and blends into a progressive boxy HP shortboard rail through the mid and tail section.

  7. Right on Steve, Most that have owned the CI Pods and Biscuits have steered towards the GT2, Bryd-Pod, Bryd-Fish, or the Mush Buster.

This new Skate shape will still have the favorable qualities of both those shapes but better suited for daily surf in marginal conditions where the HP shortie would not be a consideration to ride.
