Welly's custom Grovelor I WTB

Wells requested this Grovelor slightly modified with a new wider tail block, he wanted it exactly as his orginal Grovelor I but with slightly "wider tail block". New Grovelor I WTB, The Grovelor is morphing into so many different versions it is becoming one of the more popular all around HPSB in varying formulas.

  1. The wider tail's a nice strain there.
If this mutation is becoming more hpsb, what are the diff's between the Grovelor and the GT3-10 ?

  2. Dan, The Grovelor is basically a hpsb with low entry combined with fuller template and special bottom contours and tail rocker designed to be able to grovel and also ride in the pocket.

This one is tweaked for Wells, it has a slightly different nose template and tail template.

The GT3 is a more of a good wave HPSB. More nose rocker, overall thinner and foiled out.

    Hope this helps.

  3. So, how does the original Groveler I compare to the Groveler II to the Mush Buster? And The Groveler II to the MB?

  4. Alex,
All the Grovelor based shapes have one thing in common, the deck rocker.

Both the Grov I/II have a full nose and tail outline template than say a GT3-10 or the LeR WN-WT shortboard which are designed to be ridden in a decent to good waves with high performance type surfing style.

The Grov I outline template is slightly narrower in the nose and tail in comparo to the Grov II. The Grov II is fuller in both nose and tail template.

Both Grov I and II will complement each other in a quiver. The Grov I will work well in decent to good small to overhead conditions. Good for beach break type surf in varying conditions. The Grov II will be more for moderate to smaller conditions where weaker sections are more crumbly but still "hittable" sections.

Bottoms vary from single or double in the single. or with a vee off the tail in either types of bottom contours.

Both Grov I/II is designed to be ridden in more variable surf from crappy to good overhead point or reef beachbreak.

The Mush Buster is a completely different animal, check out this link for some design insights of the Mush Buster. http://oakfoils.blogspot.com/2010/02/new-model-daily-driver-aka-mush-buster.html

  5. Don't be confused with all the "models". Honestly, the Model thang is mainly for design categorizing. If you are confused and don't know which or what models, that is my job. Everyone board I shape is different and customized to each individual, so much so that I redigitize each shape after it comes back from the glassers.

It's my job as a shaper to put you into the correct shape by your feedback. That's why I only do real customs. I don't over shape a bunch of the same boards and sell from stocked inventory. To me it defeats the purpose of ordering a custom when you get the same exact board as your neighbor. Unless you surf exactly the same. ;)

  6. Thanks W,
I'm sorry to bug you with all my questions. I know you only make customs, and that none of your customs are identical, but you know how it is, you see some surfboard and you want to try them all... So since I can't try them all I ask a lot of questions...
Thanks for patiently answering them all. :P

(Super sick board by the way)

  7. Alex,
Oh no worries you always have great inquires about designs. I start to worry if I don't hear from you. lol.

I know it's confusing trying to keep up with all the different names and versions of models. Unless someone knows exactly what they want in terms of a shape, I generally work out all the details and will shape accordingly to the feedback of what they are presently riding. This takes out the guess work on choosing the correct type of shape for the individual.
