Stuart's New 2011 Mush Buster Twin Finner (Twin w/ Trailer)

  1. Okay Wayne, you're going to have to do a masterclass on all these new boards....
Mush buster twin fin + trailer - more skatey but what's behind the bump/wing - faster square offs during skatey turns?
Winged skate isn't a mush buster?
And where does that Galaxy Twin fit in?

  2. Don't you just love "Models" lol.

This new MB-TFn'R was a natural transition shape from the OG MB. The flat deck rocker combined with the curvy bottom rail rocker give the shape increased drive and speed out of the gate especially on the weaker surf. With the wide-point forward this shape is meant to be ridden 4"-7" shorter than your HPSB. Great shape for the upcoming spring/summer conditions.

The Winged Skate is a completely different shape other than the wings there are no commonality between the two shapes. The W-S is a performance shape for someone looking for more volume in a progressive shape. Not a hyper sensitive shape like most HPSB, surfs neutral with good response. For the ripper you can ride the W-S 6" shorter and an 1" wider and you will have a board that will punt extremely well and stable sticks.

The Galaxy is inspired from the Old School 80's Punk era twins. It is a tribute shape to that era. Slightly modernized but only the areas that count, so to say. ;-)

  3. thanks Wayne! I know what you mean about models, haha.

That Galaxy Twin looks similar in outline to the MB-TFnR. LOve both of them!

Is Chris going to take his quadtana out this weekend to get the big wave prize, do you think?

  4. It's come to marketing, I think the main reason is due to how boards are introduced by the media. I'm old skool in the sense that I custom shape each board to the individual, ie "Dan" has his own model. But, I know to relate to those that aren't initiated with custom shapes I understand that I need to offer "models".

I always try and convey to my customers to not get all wrapped up in "models". My Models are just that a "model" to begin your customization. Even though in the photos the shapes may look similar, all my customs are tweaked fot the individual. It's extremely rare that I shape two boards that are identical, that is unless the customer orders it that way...

On another note, that is the reason why I always digitize all my custom orders once I get them back from the glassers. I like to keep an actual "3D snap shot" so I can keep a record of the tweaks as the shape proegress and the evolution continues from one shape to the other. DNA progression.

  5. I noticed that a lot of the tails you're using right now in your mush/small wave boards are diamond tails.
Does a round tail give a smoother arc? I was looking at the Rusty Dwart and the Surf RX New Toy and wondering this.

  6. Dan, Yeah diamonds have been around since the beginning infact one of my first custom shape was a diamond in the early 70's. Diamonds are the new swallow. The nice aspect of diamonds is the rail line is shorter so in essence the shape will turn in and out of turn as a board shorter than the actual length. Kinda cool it's made a comeback again.

  7. I like the rocker of the Wave-skate, but I like the outline curves of this MB better. But I already have 2 fishes. My next board is an all around regular thruster. I'll be strong, and I won't change my mind no matter how cool and fun the WS and MB look like. I'm not gonna change my mind. I'm not gonna change my mind. I'm not gonna change my mind... I think...
