Jeff's new XXL WN-WT

I received this email today from Jeff,
"Surfed the board this morning from about 9-11. Hiked in through the cove to the lower point above boneyards by the 2nd cement drain outfall. I'm not sure if this was Lowers or "lower lowers". As I was hiking out there I noticed the lower most section was breaking and that nobody was on it. It was a bit smaller and less consistent then the upper sections but it was really good with occasional bigger lined up wave. Then 1 guy saw me getting all these waves and paddled out. I'd call it head high plus. The board was absolutely unbelievable! From the first wave I felt completely in tune with it. Heaps of speed and control. It was one of the best sessions of the winter. Got some great turns and speed sections. I am really in awe. Dare I say that this is a magic board! These dims are bigger than what I thought I would need but once I got out there on it, I truly wouldn't change a thing! I've had other great ones but this one is REALLY GREAT!"

This shape was not originally for Jeff. Shape was for another customer that went MIA for months. It amazes me sometimes how inconsiderate people can be at times. I have made customs for this person in the past and well aware of the type of volume he needs. Highly specialized shape that isn't from a "skin and turn the rail" type of blank. This was a first generation "DNA" strain that was hand shaped as a master. With any master it requires extra labor and time to file and record the shape.

The customer called me everyday to order this shape and was in contact virtually daily until the boards was shaped. The board was finished months ago, I have called, emailed, and waited for him to call, the board was done 10/1/09 customer called me a couple weeks ago and wanted his board..... Sorry,.. Pal I tried contacting you and no response so I sold it. No apologies, no explanations, nothing.

Stoked it went to a good home where someone will appreciate the board.

  1. Glad I could pick up the crumbs. Funny how a magic stick like this one could sit there for months when the waves have been going ORF!

  5. I remember that board sleeping alone and sad among the blanks in your shop W. It's a beautiful board for sure. I even tried to convince my friend to buy it. Glad to know it has found a good home and makes its owner surper-stoked. Really cool.

  6. Nate, Yes this shape is in the same "genome" as your winter quad. Shorter with a wider proportioned tail for a fuller outline and drive on small weaker waves with good shape. Your board should be in this week Thus/Fri

I'll contact you asap, check the blog I'll post up pics if time allows.

Alex, Have you been out lately? The waves have been going off!! This morning looked clean.

  7. NOOOOO! Unfortunately, I have that stick you made me looking at me every day being all like: "What's wrong with you man? I'm right here! Swell is Pumping! Can't you just call in sick and ignore you're pregnant wife?" And I feel bad. Boy do I feel bad.
I'm in the process of moving so next week end is a no go too.
I went out 2 weeks ago thought, and I got a better feel of the board. I can take off so early, it's trippy. So trippy I did need to adjust myself a little bit to that. I can definitively feel that lift from the tail you were telling me about.
The board holds strong in the curve and is so loose of the top. I really need to get out more, but it's a great board man.

  9. Gotten about 5 or 6 days on it. Really love this board. One word: "trust".

I have stopped listening to friends advice, online "message boards" and all the other b.s. out there. As a bigger guy, 6'3 tall, age 36 and not super hardcore ( but super enthusiastic ) I have learned the hard way that I was riding boards too small. ( only cost me several thousand dollars in undersized customs. Yikes. ) -JS

  10. JS, That is good to hear. The online message boards are filled with tools. It's mainly hype driven by those with a vested interest in selling their wares. Don't get hoodwinked and bamboozled by the hype. Do your own thing, brother.

  11. Whats' redonkulous about the erbb are the donkeys that jump on the bandwagon by getting herded by a few schills.

Seems like everyone I see riding one of the "flavor" labels on teh erbb or full on donkeys that can't really surf.

Full of easy to surf shortboards for neophytes.

  12. lol, I was a victom of the erbb. wasted tons of dough on pos shapes that didn't work. atleast for me, even after spending mucho time conversing with the shaper over what would work for me. I ended up getting the generic kook erbb shape. dims weren't even close to what we discussed. on top of that the board took nearly 12 months!

  13. Guys, there are some good shapers on the erbb and deserve the noteriety and raves on the surfer bb. They deserve it, God knows how hard it is to survive in this industry.

I don't mind if my customers post their personal boards up and would like to share the stoke with others. That's great and I appreciate the time they take to do the postings.

For myself, I feel it is not an appropiate place to spam the board with my work. If the other shapers like to, more power to them.
